What’s new in what sense?
What’s new in the world? I’ve no idea! Sorry if you thought I was going to make predictions about politics, the economy or business. I’m sure you will find plenty of experts to tell you what they have seen while they gazed into their crystal-balls. I’m thinking more narrowly.
What’s new in 2026 for me?
I’ve got two novels in an advanced stage towards completion. I have set one in the present and I will publish it under my real name. The other will be a historical novel which I am writing as Geoffrey Monmouth. I hope to self-publish both on Kindle/Amazon early in the year. Both will be available in paperback and e-book formats and I am thinking about converting one or both to audiobooks Do let me know how you like to experience your novels.
What can I say about my new book?
It is a murder mystery set in Montana in 1900 and is arguably a western. Arguably? I say that because one important theme is the transition from the 19th century to the 20th and the clash between the old ways and the new. Is the Wild West truly over or will science, technology and reason rule the new century?
Does the new book stand alone?
Yes and No! You could call it a sequel to The Cowgirl Murders, if a gap of thirty years doesn’t preclude that description. The hero is Deputy US Marshal Davy Reece, who is trying to find a role for himself in the new world, where modern policing is replacing the quick draw. He will be trying to help his teenage grandson to find his way into the future, while trying to temper the lad’s idealised view of the Wild West and his desire to lead as exciting a life as the old man. Lovers of westerns, whodunits and coming-of-age stories. It is probably not for people who like their books to fall into one of those categories exclusively. Real life crosses boundaries all the time, as it always has. I have enjoyed writing it and found the transition between centuries and between genres exciting and I hope you will. Now there’s something we can look forward to in 2026 whatever happens in the world of politics, economics or the weather.
